Private Counselling for Life’s Multiple Problems - Bude Counselling Room Tel. 07879 651645 - 01288 354484
If you live in North Cornwall or any of the surrounding areas of Devon, it may help you to know a little more about Bude Counselling Room. My name is Barry Bendell, all my clients know me as ‘Baz’. I offer individual and couple therapy at an easily accessible, yet private location in Bude. I am a “Relate Certified Counsellor”.
Some time before forming Bude Counselling Room, I worked for Relate, a well known national relationship counselling agency as a volunteer counsellor. I was trained by them at Herbert Gray College in Rugby. In fact, I was their counsellor at the Neetside Centre in Bude for a number of years until I moved on. I received further training from other agencies and continued to practice in the voluntary sector. I now work in the private sector with clients who have various needs, both individuals and couples. Many clients come to me after finding this website, through word-of-mouth recommendation, or through an Employee Assistance Program.
I have daytime and evening appointments available and you can book a face-to-face consultation at a time that is convenient to you. You can then begin to truly understand the issues affecting your life, and how you can start to make things better. It is always easier for you, once we meet as I feel sure you will realise just how friendly and considerate I am.
When you are deciding to see a counsellor it may feel like a difficult thing to do. You may believe you should be able to solve your own problems by yourself. Perhaps your friends are sympathetic but you would like an outside perspective. I am experienced and qualified and yet I believe that my most valuable asset is life experience. Having faced and overcome many challenges in life, it has left me with a belief that helping others into greater awareness and liberation from fear and uncertainty is not just a job, it is a passion and a way of life!
I am a registered member of BACP (MBACP) and follow their ethical framework for good practice. I am on the BACP register of counsellors approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.
We are also pleased to introduce Dr Julie Waumsley who is a Registered Accredited Therapist with the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), a Chartered Sport & Exercise Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and is DBS (Enhanced) cleared. Julie is very experienced, having worked as a therapist with clients who have faced many and varied personal difficulties (see areas of work). As a private practitioner, she works with clients on a one-to-one basis in a gentle, respectful and professional manner. Julie prides herself in always striving to behave in a way that is congruent with her integrity, offering individuals the opportunity to explore any difficulties they might be experiencing in a private and comfortable environment. Usually, there are very good reasons for thinking, feeling and behaving in the way we do and it is useful to better understand these reasons to such an extent as to be able to change our lives for the better. A willingness to gain personal insight and feel more empowered to enhance life can be a frightening yet enlightening and worthwhile process and one well worth embarking on with a qualified therapist. This allows for personal growth and to become more self-aware, enabling a resolve of difficulties that may prevent optimal living. The work at Bude Counselling allows for this process to unfold at a pace that is suitable for the individual, in an empathetic, warm and non-judgemental way.
In addition, Julie has worked with people who want to better manage their eating and increase their level of daily activity but find it difficult to do so, and with elite athletes, including professional footballers, national and international athletes within various sports working with the human aspects of individuals often neglected at elite sport level. Julie began her professional life as a Physical Training Instructor in the Army, and so has seen human behaviour and performance under the most extreme of conditions. She achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Psychology at the University of Kent and immediately followed this with a PhD in Psychology. Julie currently leads the BA Counselling Degree programmes at the Iron Mill College, Exeter, and teaches on the Advanced Counselling Diploma courses as well, providing expert teaching and research advice for Diploma, Undergraduate and Post-Qualifying students. Julie also runs CPD courses for qualified counsellors.
